ads,
The ripple effect could very likely spread to other nations, but I'm basing my hopes on the top three leaving before the eventual collapse of the EU.

That would be the lack of funds to prop up failing economies such as those of the PIGS.

There is no plan' for Brexit, leaked memo says.
Well there is no surprise there and hopefully the leavers will now acknowledge the truth.

There is a saying that when the choice is to stay the same or do nothing, you should seek change. John Lennon said life is what happens when you do something new
it seems our governments brexit has broken that mould and found a half way house between staying the same and doing nothing. A kind of road (or HS2) to nowhere
Time for a brexit fixit wotsit. Maybe play our top cards and trumpit.

There is no plan' for Brexit, leaked memo says.
Well there is no surprise there and hopefully the leavers will now acknowledge the truth.
Not a surprise at all, how could the Conservatives AKA Cameron, make a plan to leave as they never thought the British public would vote against them, he would never ever have had the vote if for one moment he though we would vote out, that is the arrogance of them in the thinking that the rubbish and lies they came out with had to / would totally convince the public.
The voters who voted to leave have had enough of the many unelected nobodies telling them how, and what to do, the trouble with those who never wanted to leave were brainwashed into believing that the EU was the greatest thing ever, it's actually them who are the one's that cannot see the truth in what the EU has done to England over the past years, and had we not voted to leave it would have got far worse, the EU giving England a spoonful of sugar every now and again was never going to work, they thought it would fob us of...Little ole Englanders who don't count for much.
Just because in the news are a few banks saying they are making plans to leave if it goes through is not ground breaking news, they have been telling and trying to frighten us with that for years past, how come the hight street has lost so many banks years before the leave vote, who is it now that wont admit the truth, how is it you can go into any overseas supermarket and see rows of fresh fish for sale, the English stores struggle to have a sardine for sale, just a couple of very tiny parts of the EU.
It has been said that the EU makes up a good few hundred new regulations every day, why is that, is it so the Un-elected can justify the job, and keep it, Neil Kinnock and his whole family might know the answer to that one.
The slow creeping in damage that the EU has done to England would take a life time or two to write about.
You people that voted to stay should be very grateful that at least 17.5 million of us could see the writing on the wall.

The Brexiteers knew that the Cameron administration had no plans for an OUT majority, he only promised the referendum in order to gain an overall general election majority, never for a minute thinking that he would get an OUT edict. Neville Chamberlain's inner circle had no idea what to do, when by ignoring Churchill's plethora of warnings, the UK found itself bound to declare war on Germany.
I am certain that Theresa May has the right team to effect the transition from slavery to freedom, strangely enough as Churchill had.

I recall posting quite recently that my impressions were the UK government were clueless and had no real strategy for Brexit. This memo confirms it.
If you install ministers with very average abilities who failed in previous government posts, most perceptive observers would expect the same result.
To be fair there are no templates to follow. An exit from a political and economic union that has shaped a nation for so long is bound to be challenging to say the least.
In truth many members of government and parliament do not want to leave the EU. Even the prime minister wanted to remain. However many feel, probably correctly they are tasked with a duty of delivering what the electorate in their infinite wisdom voted for.
What in fact they voted for was the ballot question. “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union”?
Nothing else. Not should the UK restrict free movement of labour or leave the single market. Whilst I accept membership is a requirement to enjoy these benefits the government can still deliver and satisfy the plebiscite result whilst at the same time retaining these advantages. All it needs is some skilled out of the box political thinking and cooperation with EU partners in negotiations. That is their job is it not?
Incidentally I understand any settlements will have to be ratified by each member state’s sovereign parliaments before any agreement can be approved. That is likely to be a very long process indeed. So I expect the UK will not be leaving the EU anytime soon. Possibly not before 2020 and the next election.

Stop blaming the old administration for the current administration's failings. That argument has been trotted out to flat footedness.
Think of this way;
A person gets a new high level job and things go wrong in the first five months. They tear their hair out, they fret, they are ready to throw in the towel and then discover three envelops in the deck drawer numbered 1, 2 and 3. They open the first envelop and it says, "Blame the person before you." Boy that sounds familiar in this case.
By the seventh month things have gone from bad to worse so they open envelope number 2 and it says, "Blame SYSTEMS." That is what is going to happen in Jannuary when Supreme Court upholds High Court ruling.
As things get worse after that they finally open envelope three and it says, "Prepare three envelopes." As I keep saying, we will see a general election before we see Brexit.

Well PP,
Please forgive me, as I thought that after your heroine had defined the rules of play that Brexit was dead and buried. However on the other hand, doesn't the judges decision that 'Parliament is Sovereign' mean that as soon as Mrs May strikes a deal with Mr Corbyn and ensures a Brexit vote majority thay it will be game set and match?

Well according to you:-
It's not going to happen due to the judges decision
It will take until 2020 to happen due to lack of planning
It will be voted down due to lack of planning
Please clarify.

Thats it then, the one's who wanted to stay know everything better then anyone else, the one's who wanted to leave know nothing.
I don't have any envelopes to open but I do know how the EU has worked in the past, I am also the same as you in that I haven't a clue as to how things will work out, come what may.
Thats the thing you should remember, you know no more them anyone else.

I think it highly likely the EU has yet to decide on their own negotiating strategy and there is probably equal cluelessness and chaos in the corridors of Brussels about how to proceed. It will be very difficult to arrive at a consensus all member states will sign up to. Remember it has to be formally debated and agreed in every state before it can be ratified.
2020 looks optimistic to me unless the UK simply takes all its toys and waves au revoir. A form of UDI. Then the UK would be really out in the cold. That may please a few hardened ‘exiteers’ but the rest of the UK would be aghast. It would likely be a recipe for economic and political meltdown.
PP. I loved your envelope analogy. So true.

The government has prepared a short three-line bill to begin the Brexit process - so Theresa May can meet her March deadline, it is understood.
Sources say they believe the legislation is so tightly drawn it will be difficult for critical MPs to amend.
Ministers have drawn up the legislation in case they lose their appeal to the Supreme Court - which would force them to consult Parliament.
The High Court ruled against the government earlier this month.
Sources say the government would plan to introduce the bill in the Commons immediately after the Supreme Court ruling.
The hope would be to push the bill through the Commons in two weeks.
It would then go to the House of Lords where it is understood the government hopes peers would back down.
They believe peers would not dare defy MPs - if the Commons had approved the legislation.
Sources say they have devised the bill to be "bomb-proof" to amendments.
This would mean Mrs May could meet her March deadline for triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which begins the formal negotiation process.
Sources say although they looked at allowing Parliament a vote through "a substantive motion" rather than legislation, they decided this would leave them vulnerable to further legal challenge.

Angela Merkel has suggested she is prepared to discuss the parameters of free movement of people in the European Union as Britain prepares for Brexit.
The German Chancellor said the EU could not divide its four freedoms — movement of goods, capital, people and services — to allow Britain to restrict immigration while retaining tariff-free access to the market of close to 500 million people.
However, she opened the possibility of discussions on the framework of the free movement of people, which became a significant issue for the 52 per cent of Britons who backed leaving the EU.

I didn't see this comment, it's part of the negotiations preambles I think.
But....how significant is a comment like this from one member state? Unless it is preamble for others to consider.
