Former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair will on Friday cast himself as the leader of the Brexit resistance.

In his first major intervention since June’s referendum, Blair will urge those Britons who want to stay in the European Union to “rise up and defend what we believe in” bid to change people’s minds and reverse last year’s vote.

His aim is to show Prime Minister Theresa May that she won’t get everything her own way as she seeks a so-called hard Brexit, prioritizing control of immigration over safeguarding trade ties. As the most formidable election-winner in the Labour Party’s history, Blair’s comments may also rally those disappointed with current party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Blair’s weakness is the same as it has always been: Critics of all political persuasions will say his campaigning strength is diminished by his support for the Iraq War.

May’s approach and Labour’s divisions have riled opponents of Brexit, who argue politicians are ignoring the wishes of the 48 percent of voters who wanted to remain in the bloc.

According to excerpts released by the Open Europe group, Blair will say:

“People voted without knowledge of the true terms of Brexit. As these terms become clear, it is their right to change their mind. Our mission is to persuade them to do so.

“Our challenge is to expose relentlessly the actual cost, to show how this decision was based on imperfect knowledge, which will now become informed knowledge. I don’t know if we can succeed. But I do know we will suffer a rancorous verdict from future generations if we do not try.”

Bloomberg 17 Feb.

The fact that teflon tony says what we should do is reason enough NOT TO, has everyone forgotten the last massive  balls up / mess he got us into.

His aim is to show Prime Minister Theresa May that she won’t get everything her own way as she seeks a so-called hard Brexit

As for your words Mickyfinn above that definitely takes the biscuit about someone who almost got / had everything his own way.

Don't the people of England learn anything by others mistakes, or do they just keep on blundering through being conned?

Correction

I think some developing news is that the French car manufacturer Peugeot may buy GM motors and relocate from the south of England to France or Germany.

This would be a blow to the UK.

What would probably be going through the brexiteers minds though will be, good riddance, let's bring rover or triumph back to fill the gap.   Sadly that is the absurdity of some arguments, let's hope we can salvage these plants.

By the way, the worst prime minister ever in the UK was Margaret Thatcher, by a country mile.

Why do we need a running commentary on BREXIT thread of what the media is reporting and saying. We all have TV, Internet and can read newspapers. These type of posts are just spam from members who have nothing of their own to say.

Is this spam allowed in order to increase pageview website hits?.

Because in case you didn't notice blair wants us to stay in the EU, not leave, which is connected to Brexit, which is another word for leaving, probably why it's in the Brexit section,  maybe to get your pageview hits up you knew that.

Latest Poll, 5,200 people responded.

Are you optimistic about the UK's future post-Brexit?

18% say YES, things can only get better

82% say NO, it is going to be a painful split.

Hey Windtalker,

Just because Donald Trump uses innapropriate language and shouts loud, and claims anything that suits him is fake news doesnt mean we have to import this to our side of the Atlantic.

We have one person on here saying don't report the news at all and another claiming someones observation and opinion is fake news.  Get a grip and use common sense is my reply.

Who said this (sorry dont have time to look through lots of posts)?  That sounds to me like we are being 'persuaded' not to say anything thats reported in the general news unless it fits in with a persons views, doesnt it?

I m sorry but I took the, where's the OFF button alternative when he came on so didn't hear all, sadly repeats will be a fact of life.

So now we are to rise up, just like we listened to protests over war in Iraq.

Do me a favour Tony, either put up and stand against Jeremy or go back to your highly paid lecture tour.

A potential takeover by PSA of Vauxhall UK is a business decision and has nothing whatsoever to do with Brexit, other that the fact the labour laws are less strict in the UK than France or Germany, trying sacking car workers in this countries.

PSA 14% owned by the family and 14% owned by the Grench government are hardly likely to support Uzk operations.

Business will carry on cutting costs and attempting synergies Brexit or no Brexit.

When did Vauxhall UK  last make a profit ?

"UNSKILLED migrants to Britain drain thousands of pounds more from the country than they contribute, according to a group of economists backing the end of uncontrolled immigration after Brexit.

Each person coming to the UK without any skills costs taxpayers an average £3,500 each year in welfare and support, research by Economists for Free Trade (EFT) has said."
