If our security forces fail to prevent a terrorist attack that is aided by the EU's 'Open Borders' policy, I wager that the UK will close ranks and welcome Brexit as the alternative to stupidity. Now that mainland Europe has become a soft target for radicalised Islamic terrorists perhaps common sense is just another attack away.

Jarvi - But referendums are ok if the result goes the way you expect/want them to.....
No they are most certainly are not OK; whatever the result. Referendums are a populist method of government and should be banned in a parliamentary democracy.
Parliament could, as Tadd correctly wrote over turn the referendum result but I don’t believe that is at all likely. The political fallout could threaten the very foundations of the state and most politicians would shy away from that.
That is just my point. Single issue referendums unlike parliamentary decision making leave no room for political maneuver or compromise.
Brexit will happen but……. Beware the ides of March.

The UK does NOT have an open border policy on the same lines as those EU states who are part of the Shengen agreeement.
We have to trust the UK's security forces
But of course terrorism is ALL the EU's fault be it from the IRA or IS or anyone else
Jarvi
Not gonna happen...
I am only guessing you are referring to the decision change
How are you certain this won't happen?
Will the exiters accept any plan the UK govt agree to put forward or what they end up agreeing with the EU - remember the exitesr do not have a say whatever the outcome and wil simply have to accept everything the UK govt agrees with the EU soft, hard, blue, green exit, or even remaining in the single market etc.
Mickyfinn
I do not think parlliemnt would overturn the result (they coudl) for teh reasosn you state but they can and probably will reject any brexit plans that do not sit right with their views and wants

As an example of why referendums are wrong in a parliamentary democracy. Imagine for a moment the public were allowed a referendum on the restoration of hanging for capital crimes.
Many people I believe would vote in support for it because it's an emotional response to anger and frustration to abhorrent acts.
Parliament on the other hand considered this subject many times and debated it equally and the decision to abolish hanging has in my view been proven the right one.
Had parliament been allowed to vote on the EU issue I believe Britain would remain a member. Considered analysis and debate is the right method of government referendums pander to illogical ill-informed emotion.

This has all been covered time and time again. It doesn't matter. The referendum happened. Our Parliament were allowed to vote. They voted to have a referendum and abide with the outcome. The outcome was to leave the EU SSR.

I don’t agree Javi. It is an important issue and one which should be debated for the future. Although I very much doubt any UK political leader will risk another referendum in my lifetime. If May allows a second referendum on Scottish independence the Union is doomed.
This subject will run and run right through the coming year because of the uncertainty the debate will cause. Until the two parties agree a plan that uncertainty is going to negatively impact the British economy. I expect most of the warning that were given in the campaign against Brexit will start to become reality over the next two years of negotiation.

Nobody Knows!!
Sorry Jarvi, I don't think many folk voted for that! - Lets hope the government at least have a plan for the future, I do suspect though they will be making it up as they go along
I suspect the gals in the Rovers will be just fine until one day their stout has gone up by 10p a bottle - then you will hear them squeal

The forum remainers have started to remind me of those Japanese soldiers who didn't believe that they had been defeated, so refused to surrender. 🤔

Perhaps the BREIXT thread is the best thing that has ever happened on EOS and it should remain forever. It gives those members with compulsive posting disorders the opportunity to join together. There are only a few of them and clear for all to see. It does help to keep them from not posting and disrupting other threads and therefore allow other genuine EOS members the opportunity to exchange knowledge and information that is relevant to expats residing in Spain.
Long live BREXIT thread

It's interesting to note that as the Brexiteers lose the argument they resort to personal insults. I would point out to them the irony of what they write applies equally to them.
This forum thread is not a contest it's a serious attempt to examine the subject matter. Although most of that comes from remainers and others who actually have interesting arguments to debate.
Brexit will send Britain tumbling from fifth to eighth in the world’s economic league table by the end of the next decade, a worrying new economic analysis has found.
Analysts at the Centre for Economic and Business Research (Cebr) found that the country’s economic prospects will be damaged by Brexit’s negative impact on the value of the pound.
As a result, modeling by the Cebr suggests consumer spending – in recent history the major driver of Britain’s economic growth – will be squeezed next year as the currency fall causes inflation to shoot up.
France is on course to leapfrog the UK to become the fifth largest economy as sterling's post-Brexit vote slump takes its toll on UK economic growth, the report states.

So no humour allowed then Micky, Brexiteers are the great unwashed I assume, so no insult there, but to reverse is an insult, I bet that you're the life and soul of the party on a night out.
Beam me up Scotty. 😴

Yes and when even that fails they resort to good old EU bashing and some think they are being humorous or even expect to be taken seriously
Wonder if any brexiters could offer a serious UK brexit plan to discuss.
Or what their wishes are
Or even a realistic top 5 - wonder how long we will have to wait before one of them says "leave the EU" as their only plan
You never know Mrs May might read them and give her an idea of what to do

It's not a Brexit plan the UK need's when it leave's the EU,it's a survival plan the UK will need according to migration watch the emigration from the EUROPE is up one third since the referendum, and has estimated a UK population rise of ( half a million ) per year before we are allowed to close the UK borders ,at.the moment while the UK remains a member ,the EU have refused the UK permission any restrictions on emigration coming in to the UK mainly from eastern European countries.
