The British market sitting virtually empty after £4million revamp thanks to EU rules that ban the stalls from having TILLS
- Market has undergone huge revamp thanks partly to European cash
- Rules mean stalls have to sell at central pay point rather than have own tills
- Traders say restrictions explain why only three out of 46 spaces are taken

I am guessing all of you understand that newspapers such as The Daily Mail and The Sun trawl news wholesale outlets for stories, usually unverified that suit their particular view of the world. Or their particular purpose.
Myths and legend again. Personally I read stuff that challenges my assumptions, not ones that verify them. Each to their own I guess.

I didn't know the newspapers did this, are you saying that the article about the market is not true?
Am I now to assume that all the articles about NOT TO LEAVE the EU are also in the same vein (Myths and Legends) and are to be deemed as untruths?

Actually, the Daily Mail article challenged my assumption that the strap line in news articles has any relevance to the substance of the article. On reading the article, it's nothing to do with Brussels. Funding was provided by the EU tor refurbishing the market for wholesale commercial use not retail use. This would have been a condition of the funding that Nottingham City Council would have been aware of . Unfortunately, this is what passes for journalism these days.

Maybe the only way to prevent misinformation ( of any significance) is to have an overseeing independent regulatory body with powers to ensure that the original source is made to correct their "errors" in a timely fashion and be monitored such that these so called "reporters" are named and shamed with financial penalties to act as adequate disincentives. Jo public are getting sick and tired of being subjected to misinformation relating to serious subject matter, and it discredits the newspaper industry and those journalists with serious and honourable intent.

At the end of the day some folk will believe what/who they want to believe, this is as it has always been and always will be, it's up to the individual to sort out the wheat from the chaff. I'm not a great believer in over regulation as I have witnessed it being far more draconian than what it is supposed to be regulating, I much prefer my right to ignore who and whatever I wish.

Good regulation is intended to regulate against conscious and intentional malpractice and abuse, which in the case of the press and with regard to serious subject matter, should surely take issue with misinformation created with the sole purpose of sensational headlines to sell print above the requirement for fully researched factual information.

Very difficult to regulate the press regarding 'misinformation' when every 5 minutes a politician is prepared to go in front of a camera and 'spout misinformation' at will, at the moment.

All the more reason to make politicians accountable in this whole sorry saga. It will be interesting to see what comes from the Chilcot inquiry, no?
In terms of the press, it's becoming increasingly obvious of the need for a truly independent source of good journalistic well researched factual information that has no political allegiances. Possible or not in this day and age?

If it's up to individuals to "sort out the wheat from the chaff" then it's important to bear in mind how those with malintent or hidden agendas purposefully hide behind complexities ( such as occurred in the financial crisis ) or purposefully try to confuse the general public by a campaign of misinformation.
Such tactical and intentional malpractice/abuse to deny the general public of important facts needs to be outlawed (good regulation) if we are ever to regain trust in our politicians and press.

Even for you that's a bit of a silly post. Did you pick up the toilet duck instead of the can of Coke by mistake? Unless you can explain how the EU is causing UK to go into recession, of course. Like reduced revenues from North Sea oil is a EU conspiracy, I assume. The decline in the things UK makes compared to its service industry is also a EU plot then?
Rather than post silly, innuendo ridden soundbites, how about actually contributing something to what was quite an interesting thread? Even tteedd, though I do find him wrong, at least tries to justify his rants comments.
