Quite right. Latest media reports are speculating more than 5 million EU migrants will migrate to the UK in the next two years, most penniless with no job or work.

I think "work" is a key element or retired. People who come as tourists, which is what I think you are referring too would naturally need to, be expected to and in their own expectations should return home as once they overstay their permitted times would be illegals the same as now.

I agree, but the government don’t give a toss, just like health tourism. All pie crust rules.

As far as I understand it the 5 year rule is part of the agreement within the EU on freedom of movement
So the UK could recind / change this post brexit if they wish
Extract from https://www.gov.uk/government/news/statement-the-status-of-eu-nationals-in-the-uk
EU nationals who have lived continuously and lawfully in the UK for at least 5 years automatically have a permanent right to reside. This means that they have a right to live in the UK permanently, in accordance with EU law. There is no requirement to register for documentation to confirm this status.

Yes Tadd1966 more ink on paper. You are quoting again mythical rule book not actual reality. Every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to come and go to the UK as they like, EU and non EU.
How much confidence do you actually have in these government statements when Nigeria are running health tourist tours to Heathrow with inclusive free shuttle buses to local hospitals and have been doing so for the last 20 years.

My own outpatient treatment at a UK teaching hospital is first class, however the actual mechanics of setting up a meeting with a health professional are laughable. The newly installed appointment computer programme doesn't work, unlike the old manual one, that did. The waiting room is circa 70% none UK, this means limited English speaking Asian, Eastern European and African, these folk are IMHO genuinely ill, this is not a GP benefits waiting room. The staff are under pressure, any 'quiet' moments are spent attempting to arrange appointments for patients who have recently been seen but cannot be reappointed because of the micky mouse computer, and then mail them appointment letters, the phone never stops ringing whilst they are doing this.
Now how do you expect these guys to vet everyone who turns up? To keep them out of the UK's hospitals they have to be kept out of the UK, we don't have much luck in restricting Asian and African health tourists, how is Brexit going to restrict Eastern Europeans?

BREXIT won’t, we cannot implement what we already have. The government just makes up pie crust rules and laws to absolve itself from any responsibility of reality.
Their attitude is don’t spit in our G&T, not our fault, we are using as much ink as possible to write as much worthless crap that nobody can or will impose. But keep on reading it and believing it. Brainwashed Briton.

Not a mythical rule book just one that does not seem to be enforced and guess what this is the UK's fault not the EU and as you said it will continue post Brexit for EU and non EU migrants

Apparently according to Mr Hunt the EHIC health card will end as soon as the UK exits the EU.

Elsi- BREXIT won’t, we cannot implement what we already have.
Then what is the point in potentially trashing the UK economy by leaving the EU if Brexit isn't likely to bring any benefit?
The EU should be keen to keep Britain on-board the EHIC scheme, as we return billions in health costs and funding to the European Union. Moreover, millions of Europeans continue to visit Britain, with a modest number ending up requiring care and treatment in our hospitals. If we do leave EHIC, the EU is also at risk of a decline in British visitors, given the risk of massive up-front costs to travellers if they are injured or have an accident.

The newly installed appointment computer programme doesn't work, unlike the old manual one, that did.
I've never known a NHS appointments system work well. Usually they give 20 people the same time. So you all arrive at nine but may have to wait a couple of hours.
When I arrived to be admitted for surgery they swore blind there was no mens surgical list that day, despite me presenting them with their letter. They did not change their mind until there was 4 of us waiting, all with letters. Of the 8 on the list four went home or to work by lunch time. The other 4 of us had our op's that afternoon while they cleared the old ladies in our beds off to the gyny ward! (several other things went wrong and I was not happy with my treatment - later I saw in my local paper that the hospital had a 90% satisfaction rate - no one asked me if I was satisfied).
Two weeks ago they sent me an appointment I did not want. I rang and emailed to say I was not coming. They sent two further reminders each of which I replied to and finally left me a reminder on my answerphone on the morning of the appointment. I bet I am one of the 'missed appointments' that they want to fine for non attendance.
My wife had the second appointment for the same thing yesterday. She has cancelled it. Hope they have not cancelled both!
Don't suppose Brexit will make much difference to any of this, but we may be able to stop the free-loaders. If they had the will power they could do that anyway. If a private firm did work for nothing they would soon go bust. If they had employees that did work for nothing they would sack them.

The cost of a 12 month worldwide accident policy is only £70 this is for two people with a maximum stay of 40 days they will fly you home as well after hospitalization in a private air ambulance.,the EHIC will give you basic health care in the EU but you will have to pay for the cost of a air ambulance.

Where and when did Mr Hunt reveal the EHIC card would dissappear
As for your travel insurance quote you might want to get prices for older people and people with pre existing conditions you will find they are a lot more expensive

He made a statement he told MPs he could not give guarantees that the EHIC would survive after withdrawal. His statement was also in the Independent.you would need to be crazy to bank on a EHIC card to get you out of trouble you are for ever reading in new paper's the high cost to fly someone home that has been injured in Spain on Holiday with only a EHIC card .

“It’s perfectly possible to agree the continuation of reciprocal healthcare rights as they currently exist – but it’s not possible to predict the outcome of the negotiations.” According to Jeremy Hunt

yes a possibility but NOT certain as you post suggested
Apparently according to Mr Hunt the EHIC health card will end as soon as the UK exits the EU.
vs
He made a statement he told MPs he could not give guarantees that the EHIC would survive after withdrawal
A big difference
Yes crazy to rely on the EHIC but the cost of some travel insurance for many simply puts them off right or wrong
Many use the EHIC card first for initial treatment or to go and see a GP avoiding paying the insurance excess or intial consultation fee (nominally 50€) - if needed they then produce their travel insurance so iteh EHIC has benefits
Reciprocal health agreements between UK and other non EU/EEA countires exist so no need to panic until we know for sure that reciprocal health care agreements with all EU member states and EEA member states are ACTUALLY withdrawn or subject to renegotiation as part of the brexit plan

I thought we established months ago on this board that the EHIC did not depend on membership of the EU and that there were countries outside the EU with membership of the scheme?

I suppose the decision on the use of the EHIC or anything else by the UK in the eurozone is all down to the EU MEPs ,personally l would not hold my breath it will be a long time before the EU gets over the bloody nose the Brexit has given them.

windtalker EHIC, oh come on, we have not even sent our jack it in notice in yet. Who the hell knows or has a clue at this stage. By the time we actually leave half of us will be brown bread. This is definite compulsive posting disorder.
